Step 1: Pre-Flight Preparation (Online)

e-VOA application (recommended)

Citizens of 92 visa-on-arrival eligible countries can apply online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id before flying. The fee is IDR 500,000 (~$32). Pre-application saves 30–60 minutes at the on-arrival VOA counter. Approval typically arrives within 5–10 business days but can be same-day during off-peak periods.

Bali tourism levy (mandatory for foreign visitors)

Since 2024, all foreign visitors must pay IDR 150,000 (~$10) Bali tourism levy. Apply online at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before flying. Confirmation QR code is required at airport — without it, you pay at airport kiosks (slower).

Health declaration (current as of May 2026)

The Indonesian SatuSehat health declaration is no longer mandatory but may return for specific health situations. Check current Indonesian health protocols 1 week before flight at covid19.go.id/en.

Step 2: Aircraft Arrival at DPS

Aerobridge or remote stand

Most international flights at DPS use aerobridges (jet bridges connecting aircraft directly to terminal). Some flights, especially from smaller aircraft or peak-hour overflow, use remote stands and bus passengers to the terminal. Either way, you exit into the international arrival concourse.

Bali Fast Tracks meeting (if booked)

Greeter meets you on the aerobridge as the aircraft door opens, or at the gate exit if remote stand. Greeter holds sign with your name and the Bali Fast Tracks logo. From this point, the process accelerates dramatically — see how fast track works.

3

Step 3: Health Screening (If Applicable)

Currently no mandatory health screening at DPS for most arrivals. Indonesian SatuSehat declaration is optional. Always check current protocols 1 week before flight as policies can change.

4

Step 4: VOA Counter (If e-VOA Not Pre-Approved)

If you didn't pre-apply for e-VOA online, you must visit the VOA counter at DPS to pay IDR 500,000 in cash (or by card at some counters). The counter is between aircraft arrival and immigration.

VOA counter timing

  • Off-peak (02:00–06:00, 14:00–18:00): 5–15 minutes
  • Moderate hours: 15–30 minutes
  • Peak windows (10:00–13:00, 22:00–01:00): 30–60 minutes

What to bring

  • Passport with 6+ months validity
  • IDR 500,000 cash, or international credit card
  • Onward flight ticket (sometimes requested)
  • Hotel booking confirmation (sometimes requested)
5

Step 5: Immigration

This is the slowest step. Standard immigration counters process arrivals one at a time with biometric scanning, fingerprint capture, and passport stamping. The diplomatic / priority lane (used by fast track services) processes the same procedure 10–20× faster.

Standard immigration timing

See our detailed wait time data. Peak windows: 60–120 minutes. Off-peak: 10–30 minutes.

What happens at the counter

  1. Officer scans your passport biometric chip
  2. Officer verifies your VOA in the system
  3. Officer takes biometric fingerprints (all foreign arrivals)
  4. Officer stamps your passport with arrival date
  5. Officer wishes you welcome to Indonesia
6

Step 6: Baggage Claim

After immigration, you proceed to the baggage claim hall. Carousel assignments are displayed on screens. Wait time depends on aircraft size and ground crew speed — typically 5–10 minutes from when you arrive at the carousel.

Lost or delayed luggage

If your luggage doesn't arrive, file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) at the airline desk in the customs hall. The PIR triggers a search and delivery to your hotel (typically 24–72 hours). The process takes 30–60 minutes alone — Bali Fast Tracks agents stay with you through it.

7

Step 7: Customs Declaration

Green channel — nothing to declare

Most leisure travellers use the green channel. Walk through; customs officers may stop random travellers for spot checks. If carrying nothing restricted, this is 1 minute.

Red channel — items to declare

Required if carrying:

  • More than IDR 100 million in cash (~$6,500)
  • Commercial goods (items for resale)
  • Restricted items (firearms, drugs, certain medicines)
  • Plants, seeds, or fresh produce
  • Multiple electronics for resale

Customs declaration form

The Indonesian Customs Declaration form (BC 2.2) is provided in-flight or at airport kiosks. Many airlines provide it digitally now. Have it filled out before reaching customs.

Step 8: Public Arrival Hall — Onward Transport

Pre-booked driver

If you've booked a driver in advance (Bali Fast Tracks Premium/VVIP includes this), they wait at the public arrival hall holding a sign with your name. Look for the legitimate sign — touts often impersonate drivers, especially for first-time visitors.

Hotel transfer

Most Bali hotels offer airport transfer for IDR 250,000–500,000 ($16–32) one-way. Pre-arrange via your hotel booking.

Grab / Gojek

Indonesia's main ride-hailing apps work at DPS but pickups happen at the designated zone (typically the second level of the parking garage, not the main exit). Cost: IDR 100,000–250,000 ($6.50–16) to Kuta/Seminyak/Canggu.

Airport taxis (Bluebird, Express)

Licensed taxi rank at the public exit. Cost: typically 30–50% more than Grab/Gojek but more reliable for international travellers without local SIM.

Common First-Timer Mistakes

Not pre-applying for e-VOA

Add 30-60 minutes to your arrival. Apply online ahead of time.

Forgetting the tourism levy

Mandatory IDR 150,000 since 2024. Pay online at lovebali.baliprov.go.id or risk slower airport kiosk processing.

Falling for taxi touts

Touts at the public exit aggressively offer rides at inflated rates. Use licensed taxi rank or Grab/Gojek instead.

Not having IDR cash

You need IDR for the tourism levy if not pre-paid online, and for some VOA counters. ATMs in the airport work; international cards accepted but with 1–2% fees.

Underestimating peak hour wait

If you land 11:00 on a Saturday in July, the standard line will be 90+ minutes. Plan accordingly or book fast track.

Frequently Asked Questions

Recommended but not mandatory. e-VOA pre-application at evisa.imigrasi.go.id (IDR 500,000 / ~$32) saves 30-60 minutes at the on-arrival VOA counter. Approval typically arrives 5-10 business days. Without e-VOA, you queue at the on-arrival VOA counter, then proceed to immigration.
Yes, all foreign visitors must pay IDR 150,000 (~$10) Bali tourism levy since 2024. Apply online at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before flying for fastest processing. Without online payment, pay at airport kiosks which adds 10-15 minutes during peak hours. Children pay full levy regardless of age.
DIY during peak hours (10:00-13:00 or 22:00-01:00): 106-215 minutes total from aircraft to onward transport. DIY off-peak: 31-67 minutes. With Bali Fast Tracks Premium ($199): 8.5 minutes including VOA processing. The variance is dominated by immigration queue and VOA counter timing.
ATMs in the airport accept international cards (1-2% fees). Some VOA counters accept international credit cards. Tourism levy must be paid digitally (online ahead of time or at kiosks accepting card). Carry at least $50 USD or equivalent IDR cash as backup for small purchases (taxi, water, etc).
Some yes. The licensed taxi rank (Bluebird, Express) is safe but more expensive. Grab/Gojek pickups happen at a designated zone (typically second level of parking garage). Avoid touts who approach you in the public arrival hall — they often offer rides at inflated rates and may not be insured. See our scam-avoidance guide for details.
